About Orthopaedic Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic Youghal
My name is Barbara Schlensok and I run an orthopaedic and sports injury clinic in Youghal. Co. Cork. The aim of the clinic is to help people recover from acute and chronic pain. Youghal Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Clinic was established in 2022.
After a car accident in my 20s, I lived with severe pain for many years. Since then, I have been fascinated by human anatomy and physiology. I work with my patients in their journey towards injury recovery and prevention.
A Typical Treatment
At your first appointment, your therapist will ask you questions about your overall history. Don’t be surprised by this extensive questioning; it helps your therapist develop hypotheses to explain the underlying reason for your visit. You may feel like you’re recounting your life story – but the information the therapist collects at this stage will save valuable time during the physical assessment.
Wear comfortable clothes, because your therapist may ask you to strip down to your undergarments. Your therapist can learn a great deal from your general posture, and stripping down can facilitate this observation. Next, a palpatory exam will help validate the therapist’s initial hypotheses. The therapist will probably palpate (feel) various parts of your body, including your stomach and head. Following this information-gathering exam, the therapist will carry out her/his first therapeutic treatments.
In follow-up appointments, don’t be surprised if the therapist tests your body again, as she/he must assess the effects of the first treatment to plan subsequent ones.

Consultations and treatments are by appointment only.
